An outstanding server, dedicated philanthropist and lover of all things RuPaul’s Drag Race, Randall Bull has been a beloved member of the Fifth Group family for over seven years. Get to know him and all of his favorite La Tavola menu items below in today’s #FGRFamily spotlight!
How long have you been with Fifth Group Restaurants?
I celebrated my anniversary in August, so I have now officially worked with Fifth Group for seven years.
What is your favorite part about working at La Tavola?
I love working here because of the friendships I’ve created and repeat guests that have turned into friends. I also have so much pride in the food we put out – it’s simple food done well and it is consistently delicious.
Where are you from originally?
I’m from Tennessee – near the Chattanooga area. It’s grown to be such an amazing city with so much to do, so I really enjoy going back to visit when I can.
What is your favorite season on the La Tavola menu?
I used to think fall was my all-time favorite menu with heartier meats and veggies, but it’s a tough choice now because La Tavola has really opened my eyes to things I didn’t know I liked. You can have a great piece of fish or a beautiful salad in the summer, so I’ve really come to appreciate all of our menus and what they offer.
Can you walk me through the perfect meal at La Tavola?
The first items that come to mind for antipasti are calamari and a Caesar salad – I really think our Caesar is one of the best I’ve ever had. I would also have to get meatballs – they are tender and rich and our marinara is so simple and perfect.
For an entree, I would choose the Saltimbocca alla romana because the way all of the ingredients come together is absolutely wonderful.
As for dessert, we have the best cannoli in town. I would have to finish everything off with a glass of limoncello – we make our own in house!
What is your guilty pleasure?
Easy. Wendy Williams, anything related to RuPaul’s Drag Race and hashbrown bowls from Waffle House.
What tip would you give to a guest dining at La Tavola for the first time?
We have our classics, but you should always try something with a seasonal approach because it may not be here next time. Also, I always recommend eating family-style to taste a little of everything instead of one dish. It’s important to try new things!
What is the first thing you do after a late night on the job?
I usually relax in front of the television with a nice cocktail and my dog.
What are your favorite places in Atlanta?
I like going to live shows, so I love Center Stage. It’s small enough to be intimate, but big enough for some really cool acts. I also love being near The Fox – who can say no to a good musical?
What was the last place you traveled?
My boyfriend and I went to D.C. last year to visit some friends and we traveled by train to New York. I saw my first Broadway show, so it was a really exciting trip for me!
What is your biggest pet peeve?
People who don’t notice their surroundings – whether it’s driving, in the grocery store or just in general. I wish people would just look up from their phones to notice what’s happening.
What is one of your biggest accomplishments with Fifth Group?
I’ve been the top fundraiser for Hunger Walk for the past four years, which is something I’m really proud of. Everyone has their cause in life and putting an end to hunger is mine, so if I can bug my friends and family for a dollar or a thousand to make a real difference, I absolutely will. Personally and as a company, I think we can do so much to help people.
