As Operations Manager at Bold Design, Ray Rosa is the man pulling the strings behind the scenes at many of our design team’s events and weddings. We sat down with him to talk everything from growing up in a big family to his favorite event trend. Read on!
How long have you been with Bold Design?
It’ll be 3 years in October.
What is your favorite part about being on the Bold Catering & Design team?
The people. We have a great mix of people with different backgrounds and skill sets and makes for an awesome team.
How did your career in events begin?
I started my career as a stage manager for a theater, then went to culinary school. After that I got into catering and merged my theater background with the catering and events side, then came over to Bold Design.
Where do you live in Atlanta?
In West Midtown right around the corner from Bold Design.
What’s your best excuse to throw a party?
Friendsgiving is a big one for me. We’ve had over 25 people the last two years my friends and I have hosted it here in Atlanta. Birthdays are also a great excuse to celebrate!
What’s a fun or random fact about yourself?
I have 6 sisters and am the only boy (and the youngest).
When you’re not working, what do you love to do?
Going to see music. I have a lot of friends who are singers and in bands and we love checking out all music venues in town.
Any favorite music venues in Atlanta?
Right now, I really like District and Ravine. They’re two newer venues that are really cool and host a lot of EDM DJs.
What’s your favorite trend-forward design element from a recent event?
I’ve been loving that transition spaces are now being considered a lot more than they have been in the past. For example – a tunnel or an entry way in between spaces at an event. People are thinking so much more about how you’re entering and leaving a space and getting really creative with it.
What’s your favorite Fifth Group restaurant and FGR dish?
My favorite Fifth Group restaurant is Ecco and my favorite thing on the menu is the gnocchi. It’s so good. You also can’t miss the Ellis Island drink at Ecco Midtown!
Favorite party theme?
I love a good Decades party theme! The theme is great because it allows the people that want to dress up and get into it to do so, but people that don’t have a ready-to-go outfit can still make something work.
Favorite band or type of music?
Right now, I’m really into a DJ group called Lane 8. It’s great music – that perfect mix where you can have a cocktail and chill and drink it but also play it in your office while you’re trying to get work done.
What’s your favorite thing about Atlanta?
The city itself – it’s green, there’s a lot of green outdoor spaces, and we have a really great mix of cultures and people.
What are three adjectives that best describe you?
Driven, reliable, and honest.
Who inspires you most in your career?
I’ve always looked up to my parents. They’re hustlers and hard workers.
If you could invite one person, living or dead to dinner at a Fifth Group Restaurant, where would you take them?
Since I’ve been watching The Crown recently, I’d have to say Queen Elizabeth. I’d take her to South City Kitchen so she could see Atlanta’s style of food – you can’t get fried chicken and collard greens in England!
