Designer Spotlight: Steve Bales

An event industry pro, Bold’s Steve Bales designs magical events that bring clients’ dreams to life. The winner of over twenty Allie Awards including best floral, best table top and best themed event décor, Steve designs jaw-dropping events that vibe with an occasion’s theme and raise the bar on Atlanta event style.

Speaking of style, check out this ceremonial chuppah enveloped in white blooms for a St. Regis wedding. The chuppah was installed on-site the day before and weighted to withstand spring winds.  A team of four floral designers worked non-stop for seven hours on the day of the wedding to wire 480 blooming white cherry branches to the frame. It was a stunning ceremony backdrop for the bride and groom’s most memorable moment.

Steve’s design philosophy? “Every event should have a wow factor.” That’s evident in his use of florals to project upscale luxury. This 30-foot reception head table featured a massive table runner of 350 white hydrangeas, 40 antique green hydrangeas, 200 majolica spray roses, over 300 tulips, 100 polar star roses, 50 white snapdragons, 40 white ornithagalum, 60 clematis vines, 100 viviane spray roses, and much more. It spilled onto the floor, evoking a bed of living, growing flowers.

Steve’s design ethos shows beyond his stunning wedding work: He also brings the glamour to corporate events. This giant chair covered in thousands of green mums served as a super-cool ‘selfie-station’ for guests at a corporate event, and red roses spilling out of a white grand piano were an elegant, over-the-top touch for a lounge area.

Here, Bold’s General Manager Kris Reinhard appreciates Steve’s ability to enhance every event – even when that event stars a super gorgeous Porsche, Steve’s designs get noticed.

Another one of Steve’s calling cards? Memorable tablescapes. Chalk it up to Bold’s reputation as the best caterer in town – our designers want to help make the meal memorable with more than just delicious food.  For this rehearsal dinner, each table featured a custom vignette composed of antique whiskey bottles with pheasant feathers, crystal carafes, antlers and chocolate mercury votives. Steve’s attention to detail delivered the client’s rustic vision coupled with a sense of sophistication.

One of Steve’s most iconic designs: Hanging tulips over a head reception table. A “chandelier” of yellow tulips hung from the ceiling, reflected in the mirror-topped table below.
